2 September 2010 (Sunsites, Arizona)
Fall is quickly approaching, and with it has come the annual arrival of Wednesday night dinners at the Sunsites Community Center.
Once again, the home-style meals are being prepared under the watchful eye of community center board president Joan Brown.
She and the all volunteer crew have many years of experience under their collective belts in preparing and serving meals on Wednesday nights.
Indeed, the serving line is something to see.
People typically start lining up as much as a half hour before dinner is served at 5:00 P.M.
Nobody wants to miss getting a piece of homemade pie and being in the front of the line offers the best pie options.
And getting there early also ensures that a person gets served; as many times as not the dinner sells out before 6:30 P.M.

You should see the food fly out of the kitchen when five o'clock arrives!
The meals are served very quickly; one evening last year over 80 meals were served in just an hour and five minutes.
It's a great combination of the speed of fast food and the quality of home cooked food.
The price is pretty reasonable as well.
A complete dinner with an entre, vegetables, salad, roll and a drink costs just $5.00.
This is the same price as last year and is quite a bargain.
The community center could always use more volunteers and could especially use one more hand on Wednesday nights.
Help is needed from 4:30 to 6:30 to do plate scraping and very easy clean-up.
This is a good volunteer opportunity for anyone who likes people and enjoys working in the kitchen.
Please call Joan Brown at 826-4024 if you would like to volunteer on Wednesday evenings.
You can check out what's for dinner each week at the community calendar here in the Sunsites Sun.
